The Dow Jones Industrial Average had already taken a beating by the time President Obama stepped up to the podium for his delayed 1:53 p.m. statement. But as he spoke, calling for higher taxes, the index fell to new lows for the session, dipping briefly below 11,000.
Although the Dow recovered that milestone within minutes, Obama’s attempt at soft finger-pointing seems to have gotten a chilly reception from investors.
