Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., indicated that she knows “a lot of reasons” why Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., should not serve as Mitt Romney’s running mate this year.
“Marco Rubio is a nice guy, but not someone who, I think, belongs on a national ticket — for a lot of reasons,” Wasserman Schultz said yesterday on Newsmakers. As for whether he could help Romney win Florida, she said that “in the polling that I’ve seen recently [Rubio] doesn’t really make much difference; in fact in some cases [he] actually hurts Mitt Romney, or does very little.”

Wasserman Schultz isn’t the first Democrat to suggest that a Republican is disqualified from serving at the national level. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., predicted that Newt Gingrich would never be president — and not necessarily because of Republican primary voters.
“He’s not going to be President of the United States,” Pelosi said of Gingrich. “There is something I know. The Republicans, if they choose to nominate him that’s their prerogative. I don’t even think that’s going to happen.”
Wasserman Schultz suggested that Romney would lose Florida, largely because he supports the Paul Ryan budget, “which would end Medicare as we know it and shred that safety net, and leave seniors with no floor and potentially where they could fall right through it into an abyss.”
