President Trump ridiculed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and CNN host Chris Cuomo for their work regarding the protests that have rocked the nation for nearly a week.
Several stores were looted and vandalized as New York City police officers worked to contain an aggressive crowd on Monday night. Trump criticized the governor’s response to the riots in a tweet Tuesday morning. He also jabbed the anchor over CNN’s television ratings.
“Yesterday was a bad day for the Cuomo Brothers,” Trump wrote. “New York was lost to the looters, thugs, Radical Left, and all others forms of Lowlife & Scum. The Governor refuses to accept my offer of a dominating National Guard. NYC was ripped to pieces. Likewise, Fredo’s ratings are down 50%!”

Chris Cuomo’s ratings have fallen as some feel he has been too easy on his brother during televised interviews. One area in which some believe the governor should be questioned is his response to the coronavirus pandemic and his decision to mandate that nursing homes readmit patients who tested positive for COVID-19. The governor has since reversed that policy, but Trump used the controversy to encourage him to accept assistance from the National Guard for the protests.
“NYC, CALL UP THE NATIONAL GUARD. The lowlifes and losers are ripping you apart. Act fast! Don’t make the same horrible and deadly mistake you made with the Nursing Homes!!!” Trump wrote in a separate tweet.

Trump praised the National Guard’s actions in Minneapolis and Washington, D.C., where he claimed the guard had “no problems” and law enforcement made “many arrests.”
“D.C. had no problems last night. Many arrests. Great job done by all. Overwhelming force. Domination. Likewise, Minneapolis was great (thank you President Trump!),” he tweeted.

Protests over police brutality and racial injustice have taken place throughout the nation since George Floyd died after being arrested by a Minneapolis police officer who knelt on his neck for several minutes. Some of the protests have devolved into riots, including looting, arson, and vandalism.
