Prince George’s County Public Schools might lose Superintendent William Hite to Philadelphia, the school system announced late Friday night.
The School Reform Commission for the School District of Philadelphia announced earlier on Friday that Hite is a finalist in the search for a new superintendent. Hite is up against Pedro Martinez, the deputy superintendent of the Clark County School District in Nevada.
“While I have not sought out other professional opportunities, I have been approached on numerous occasions and have turned them down,” Hite said in a statement. “However, my wife Deirdre and I believe this is an opportunity that we must explore.”
Hite will participate in a public forum in Philadelphia on Tuesday, where he will be able to meet Philadelphia residents.
