The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management on Tuesday approved a wind project off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, that, when finished, is expected to be the country’s largest wind farm, capable of producing enough energy to power nearly 600,000 homes.

The Sunrise Wind project, an undertaking of renewable energy company Orsted and electric services provider Eversource, is the seventh offshore wind farm to be approved under the Biden administration. The project is expected to bring 942 megawatts to the grid, with an expected operation date in 2026.
