Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have struck a deal after months of negotiations on legislation that would accelerate federal approvals for energy and infrastructure projects. The legislative agreement reflects a monthslong campaign by Democrats for President Donald Trump to ease up on his crackdown on wind and solar energy.

The legislation, which still faces an uphill battle to pass in both chambers following the midterm elections, would be crucial to facilitating the connection of renewable energy to the grid and the expedited construction of new power plants and other electricity-generating projects that will be used to power artificial intelligence.
