Ron Johnson to isolate after coronavirus exposure

Sen. Ron Johnson is quarantining after being exposed to someone with the coronavirus.

The Wisconsin Republican was exposed on Monday. On Wednesday, he tested negative for the virus. He will remain in quarantine until Sept. 29.

His spokesman, Ben Voelkel, said, “Sen. Johnson is experiencing no symptoms, but was tested late Wednesday because he was scheduled to travel with the President today.”

President Trump is scheduled to travel to Mosinee, Wisconsin, today for a campaign rally. Johnson was scheduled to go with him.

The timing of the quarantine may be inopportune for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which Johnson is chairman of. The committee’s findings on Joe Biden’s son Hunter and his involvement with a Ukrainian energy company are set to be released in a few days.

Johnson is the second senator to quarantine this week. On Tuesday, Republican Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia announced she was self-isolating after being exposed to an individual with the virus. She has tested negative.

Thus far, only Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is the only member of the Senate to have tested positive for the coronavirus. Democratic Sens. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Tim Kaine of Virginia have tested positive for coronavirus antibodies, suggesting that they had been exposed to the virus.
