Trump threatens to permanently close the border after weekend clash

President Trump on Monday threatened to permanently close down the southern border after migrants rushed the border over the weekend, and as thousands of people in several caravans continue to move north through Mexico.

“Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries. Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A.,” Trump tweeted Monday morning. “We will close the Border permanently if need be. Congress, fund the WALL!”

Trump has made a similar threat over the last week in the face of new threats to the border, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Thanksgiving Day that he had spoken to Mexico about controlling the situation.

Many migrants who were part of the caravan began arriving at the southern border earlier this month, and on Sunday border crossing was temporarily shut down when hundreds of Central American migrants rushed a port of entry between Tijuana and San Diego.
