Noem triples year-end monetary incentive for self-deportation to $3,000

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is tripling the stipend for illegal immigrants who self-deport through Customs and Border Protection’s app by the end of the year.

Illegal immigrants who voluntarily self-deport through the CBP Home app will receive a $3,000 stipend, Noem announced Monday on Fox News, framing it as part of a “home for the holidays” message.

“If you voluntarily want to go home now to your country, if you’re in this United States of America illegally, we will give you $3,000 through the holidays to send you home. We’ll buy you a ticket, give you $3,000 to go home, and that includes people that have not been detained, maybe have interacted with us, are detained, and don’t have criminal charges against them,” Noem said.

The department announced in May that it would be providing $1,000 stipends to illegal immigrants who self-deported through the app. The end-of-year $3,000 bonus ups the ante for the final week and a half of 2025.

“Since January 2025, 1.9 million illegal aliens have voluntarily self-deported and tens of thousands have used the CBP Home program. During the Christmas Season, the U.S. taxpayer is so generously TRIPLING the incentive to leave voluntarily for those in this country illegally- offering a $3,000 exit bonus, but just until the end of the year,” Noem said in a statement.

Noem said immigrants who self-deport could eventually return to the United States, saying that right is not afforded to those who do not leave on their own volition.

DHS said self-deporting through the app waives any civil fines or penalties for illegal immigrants who failed to depart, noting it would arrange and pay for people to travel back to their home country. The department has declined to share the exact number of people who have used the app since its inception.

“Illegal aliens should take advantage of this gift and self-deport because if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will not return,” Noem said.
