The Department of Homeland Security is requesting proposals from private contractors for designs on President Trump’s promised “wall” on the southern border.
U.S. Customers and Border Protection on Friday posted two proposal requests on its website, one asking for a “solid concrete border wall” and another asking for an “other border wall.”
“The wall design shall be physically imposing in height,” reads the request for the concrete wall. “The Government’s nominal concept is for a 30-foot high wall. Offerors should consider this height, but designs with heights of at least 18 feet may be acceptable. Designs with heights of less than 18 feet are not acceptable.”
It also says the wall should be constructed so that it’s “not possible” to climb to the top of it, so that it can not be penetrated through an underground tunnel and so that it would take at least one hour to break through it.
The wall was a centerpiece of Trump’s campaign, invoking it as part of his plan to reduce illegal immigration.
