President-elect Donald Trump announced that he has decided to appoint Richard Grenell, his longtime foreign policy adviser, to serve as his envoy for “special missions.”

Grenell served in several positions during Trump’s first administration and was under consideration for other roles for this term as well. During the president-elect’s first term, Grenell served as the U.S. ambassador to Germany, special envoy for Serbia and Kosovo peace negotiations, and the acting director of national intelligence.
