Clinton: ‘Republicans lecturing people of color’

Hillary Clinton used her Monday Facebook Q&A with supporters to bash Jeb Bush, Donald Trump and the Republican Party as a whole.

When one Facebook user asked Clinton: “Secretary Clinton, what do you think about Jeb Bush’s comments about African-Americans and ‘free stuff’ last week?”, the former secretary of state took the opportunity to contrast the two political party’s priorities.

“That kind of rhetoric is deeply insulting, whether it comes from Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney or Donald Trump,” Clinton wrote in response. “I think people are seeing this for what it is: Republicans lecturing people of color instead of offering real solutions to help people get ahead, including facing up to hard truths about race and justice in America.”

During a town hall in South Carolinas last Thursday, Jeb Bush responded to a question about how the GOP could win African-American voters over by claiming “[o]ur message is one of hope and aspiration. It isn’t one of division and get in line and we’ll take care of you with free stuff.” After a negative response, Bush has since tried to reframe his remarks by stating that he wants to help people “rise up.” But many took his comment as insinuating that Democrats give away “free stuff” to minorities in order to win votes.

Clinton also went on to slam the GOP’s tax policies and “sweetheart deals to their corporate friends,” whereas she believes the Democrats are the only party that ensures Americans have access to social services such as access to health care, early childhood education and job training.

“That’s giving away ‘free stuff’?!” Clinton said of Democratic policies. “Talk about backwards. And that’s not all. I’m calling for an end to the era of mass incarceration, criminal justice reforms, and protecting voting rights, but Republicans across the country are making it harder to vote. That’s wrong and it’s got to change.”
