Donald Trump pushed back against the notion that “establishment” Republicans are lining up in his corner with a new ad titled, “Fighting the Establishment.”
Trump released the video on Facebook and is relying on free media to carry it to the masses so that he does not have to pay for the exposure.
“The establishment, the media, the special interest, the lobbyist, the donors, they’re all against me,” Trump said in the ad. “I’m self-funding my campaign. I don’t owe anybody anything. I only owe it to the American people to do a great job. They are really trying to stop me. Everybody knows it. Everybody sees it. We’re gonna win. We’re gonna win it for the people. We’re gonna win it for our country. We’re going to make America great again.”
Trump’s 30-second ad contains multiple claims that appear to contradict existing evidence. While Trump claims the ‘establishment’ is against him, numerous reports have emerged about how it favors him over his next closest competitor, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
And Trump’s claim that he is self-funding his campaign is demonstrably misleading. Trump has written fundraising solicitations to his supporters since launching his presidential bid — and insisted that their donations to Trump could make them rich. While Trump is sinking his family’s cash to into his presidential bid, he is also relying on outside donors for assistance.
Trump ranks second in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings and will campaign in New Hampshire on Monday.
