Ohio Gov. John Kasich has tied Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for second place in New Hampshire, according to a new survey of likely Republican voters. Donald Trump leads the American Research Group’s poll of the Granite State, but the fight for second place has grown much more intense.
Trump received the support of 25 percent of Granite State respondents, with Rubio and Kasich tied at 14 percentage points, followed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 10 percent, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 9 percent, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 8 percent.

Trump gained four percentage points since ARG’s December poll, while Rubio, Cruz, Christie, and Carson all lost some ground.
“Unsolicited voter playback to our interviewers suggest that Cruz has been hurt by voters learning his place of birth,” wrote Dick Bennett, ARG’s president. “Kasich leads in most mentions for voter contact by campaigns, with no mentions for Trump.”
ARG surveyed 600 likely Republican voters with a margin of error at four percentage points. ARG’s poll largely reflects other recent polling of New Hampshire, with the notable exception of Kasich rising to second place. Kasich ranks seventh in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings.
