President Obama learned of the deadly terrorist attack in the Belgian capital of Brussels Tuesday morning and administration officials are in close contact with their Belgian counterparts, the White House said in a brief statement.
“The president was apprised this morning of the explosions in Brussels, Belgium,” the White House said in a statement. “U.S. officials have been and will continue to be in close contact with their Belgian counterparts, and we will provide additional information and updates as we are able to do so.”
Obama is wrapping up his trip to Cuba Tuesday with a major address planned for 10:20 a.m., as well as a meeting with dissidents. In the afternoon, the entire first family was planning to watch a baseball game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Cuba’s national team before heading to Argentina for two days.
The White House has not said whether the president plans to cut his trip short because of the attacks.
