Sen. Al Franken wants answers from Uber on privacy and its reported “God view” tool.
The Minnesota Democrat sent a letter Wednesday to Uber CEO Travis Kalanick requesting explanation from the ride-sharing company on the extent to which it tracks its users, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Franken’s letter describes what a “troubling disregard for customers’ privacy” at Uber, and his letter requests answers on Uber’s “God view tool,” Uber’s personal policies on handling private customer data and why it keeps personal data on file even after a customer terminates their account. (You can read the letter below.)
Uber has been under fire this week after BuzzFeed published comments an Uber executive made at a dinner party in New York City about investing in an opposition research team to investigate troublesome journalists. Kalanick was present at the party.
The ride-sharing company has battled with municipal and state regulators since its inception.
