National Zoo hosting ape-themed wine tasting

Somebody should tell the Friends of the National Zoo that just because two words rhyme that doesn’t mean those things should necessarily be paired together.

On Sept. 22, the National Zoo plans to entertain folks at an affair called “Grapes with the Apes.” It’s a wine tasting and a way to visit the great ape house, home of the Zoo’s six western lowland gorillas, after normal zoo hours. “Guests can sample wines from both local and national wineries and vineyards while enjoying live music and exclusive after-hours access to the Great Ape House,” the invitation beckons.

For those interested in hanging with said apes while sampling some grapes, general admission tickets are going for $55 or VIP for $100. Friends of the National Zoo members will receive a discount. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.
