Teen activist C.J. Pearson gained national recorgnitation as a Ted Cruz organizer, but now he’s signing up for Bernie Sanders’ revolution.
“I am looking to become a surrogate for the [Sanders] campaign and communicate Bernie’s message to young people across the country,” Pearson told the Washington Examiner, after revealing that he had switched allegiances to the Sanders campaign. “Symone Sanders, Bernie’s national press secretary, welcomed me and is looking forward to it.”
Prior to his commitment to the Sanders campaign, the young, African-American activist gained national attention after a video he made condemning President Obama went viral on YouTube. Pearson subsequently was hired to run “Teens for Ted Cruz.” After the fourteen-year-old switched sides, some criticized the Cruz campaign for bringing the young man aboard.
The former conservative now describes himself as an “independent” and says he was drawn to Sanders because “he understands that systematic racism is reality. He gets it.” Pearson adds that “underdogs deserve to win, too.”
“I gave good reason for my switch. That wasn’t just some hormonal shift,” Pearson told the Examiner.
