Hot Mess: Taste of the South? More like sweat

Mississippi, Florida and South Carolina were the hot booths at this year’s Taste of the South “Southern hospitality” food festival. It wasn’t the pulled pork or the seafood gumbo that were drawing guests to their displays, but the complimentary fans.

You could say the event was literally D.C.’s hottest party on Saturday, with hundreds packed in the un-air-conditioned D.C. Armory.

Taste of the South Chairman Lesley Elliott told Yeas & Nays the organizers choose to donate the money it would’ve spent on air conditioning (a quoted rate of $65,000) for the huge stadiumlike building to its featured charities instead.

Among the sweaty attendees? Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C.
