Hillary Clinton said New York Gov. Andrew Cumo’s call for a $15 dollar minimum wage was true to “New York values,” implying Republican front-runner Donald Trump’s policies were not.
“Now that’s what we call #NewYorkValues. Thanks, @NYGovCuomo. -H” Clinton tweeted on Friday morning in response to the New York governor’s earlier tweet.
“With a statewide $15 min wage and nation’s only 12-week paid family leave program, we will prove that the economy can & should work for all,” Cuomo tweeted, emphasizing two main tenets of Clinton’s platform.

The exchange comes as Clinton attempts to gain the home-state advantage in the upcoming New York primary, where native New Yorkers Bernie Sanders and Trump will also be competing. Sanders is Clinton’s Democratic primary opponent, while Trump is leading the Republican race.
During a previous GOP debate Ted Cruz slammed Donald Trump for his “New York values” and Clinton jumped on the bandwagon, constantly contrasting her “New York values” with his.
While Cuomo has endorsed Clinton in the April 19 primary and she currently leads Sanders by nearly 30 points in the state, the Vermont senator has campaigned heavily in New York and is hoping for an upset.
The Clinton campaign released an anti-Trump ad targeting New York voters on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of New York’s diversity.
