First lady Michelle Obama is glossing up the magazine world again with her new cover in Essence’s October issue, complete with an interview about her experiences adapting to the “big, bright light” of her position as First Lady, her emotional trip to Africa, and her message to young women that her story isn’t a long-shot fairytale. “Don’t look at me as the First Lady first; look at me as Michelle Obama, a girl who grew up on the South Side of Chicago,” reads the article. “Because I was there, and this is attainable. There is no magic to this. It is hard work.”
