Ron Johnson: ‘Real and present danger’ of Islamic State bringing Ebola to U.S.

The risk of Ebola being intentionally brought to the United States is a “real and present danger,” according to one Republican senator.

Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson is concerned that Islamic State of Iraq and Syria militants will use the disease as a biological weapon for terrorism.

It’s “certainly something I’ve been thinking about ever since this Ebola outbreak started,” he told NewsmaxTV Wednesday.

Johnson said the U.S. should be actively preparing to defend against the threat.

“You really don’t even want to think about,” he said. “You really don’t even want to talk about, but we should do everything possible to defend ourselves against that possibility because I think that is a real and present danger.”

Johnson also demanded the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tell the truth about how two Dallas healthcare nurses contracted Ebola.

“We still don’t understand if there was a breakdown in protocols,” Johnson said. “What was it? How are these nurses gowned up? How serious — obviously they were taking it seriously, but we just simply don’t know how they were infected and that’s information we really ought to know.”
