It has taken a while, but someone has finally caught up to Donald Trump.
Ben Carson, who has steadily climbed in the Republican presidential race, is now topping Trump and the rest of the GOP field in Michigan, pulling in 24 percent to Trump’s 22 percent according to a new poll.
In the poll conducted by Marketing Resource Group, a Lansing-based firm, no other candidates even break into double digits, a trend that has been developing for a few weeks now.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush sits in third with 8 percent support, while former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio fill out the top five with 6 and 4 percent support, respectively.
The poll marks a whirlwind 40 days for the famed neurosurgeon, who has make a significant jump following the first GOP debate on Aug. 6 in Cleveland, Ohio. Carson currently sits in second in the RealClearPolitics average both nationally and in the early primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire. The only other candidate in double digits in any of the three contests is Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who sits in third at 10 percent in the Granite State.
Carson currently sits in third in the Washington Examiner‘s latest power rankings after Carly Fiorina surpassed him to grab the second spot.
