New Pentagon press secretary is TV journo Peter Cook

The Pentagon announced Friday that it has selected Bloomberg TV journalist Peter Cook as its next press secretary.

Cook was most recently Bloomberg TV’s chief Washington correspondent and will take the position left vacant for months by Rear Adm. John Kirby, who left when Defense Secretary Ashton Carter was confirmed. Carter had expressed his desire for a civilian to fill the press secretary role.

“I am pleased to announce that Peter Cook will be joining my team as our spokesperson here at the Pentagon,” Carter said. “Peter’s years of experience in the national media, coupled with his personal integrity and nonpartisan approach, make him an ideal fit to represent this institution during a crucial period for our nation and our military.”

Cook will start in July.
