Bernie Sanders spoke to his supporters in Minnesota after losing the South Carolina Democratic primary by nearly 50 percentage points, pledging to fight on.
As the results were immediately called for Clinton within minutes of the polls closing, Sanders congratulated Clinton on her victory but insisted that “this is just the beginning.”
“We won a decisive victory in New Hampshire. She won a decisive victory in South Carolina,” Sanders said in a statement following his loss. “Now it’s on to Super Tuesday. In just three days, Democrats in 11 states will pick 10 times more pledged delegates on one day than were selected in the four early states so far in this campaign.”
“Our grassroots political revolution is growing state by state, and we won’t stop now,” Sanders continued.
Immediately following the Palmetto State primary, Sanders went to Minnesota to try to rack up Super Tuesday wins. During his rally, Sanders did not mention the South Carolina primary once, but did comment to reporters prior to the rally.
“In politics on a given night, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Tonight we lost. I congratulate Secretary Clinton on a very strong victory,” Sanders said. “Tuesday over 800 delegates are at stake and I intend to win many, many of them.”
