J.J. Abrams: The force is strong with Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton on Monday received an endorsement from both the final frontier and a galaxy far, far away.

J.J. Abrams, who directed the two most recent “Star Trek” movies and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” is officially supporting Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“I will say we are supporting Hillary,” Abrams told the Daily Beast, also speaking for his wife, Katie McGrath. “We believe in her as the strongest candidate. She does have the experience and the politics. She is compassionate, and right. When I look at the people who need the support that aren’t necessarily getting it, I believe that she would provide that.”

Though this is the first time Abrams and McGrath have talked about the 2016 election, the two have been supporting Clinton financially since July 2015, when they each donated $500,000 to Priorities USA Action, a pro-Clinton Super PAC.

Abrams said he believes Clinton is the best candidate to help those who truly need the government’s aid.

“That is really the way that we have to approach how we vote: Look around and ask yourself, who needs to be brought up?” he said. “Who needs to be emphasized? Who needs compassion? And I find that that’s something that she’s got.”

Clinton subtly acknowledged Abrams’ support at a Dec. 19 rally, when she ended her closing statements by saying, “May the force be with you.”

Clinton narrowly came out on top of her only remaining opponent, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, by less than 1 percent.
