Donald Trump’s campaign has sometimes resembled Richard Nixon’s. At times, Trump waves his harms outstretched with his fingers apart in “V” signs just as Nixon did. Trump’s former adviser Roger Stone was also an adviser to Nixon during his post-presidential years.
Now, by way of a new biography of Trump by Michael D’Antonio, comes word that Nixon received inspiration from Trump. Nixon wrote a letter to Trump in 1987, praising him for his appearance on “Donahue,” a daytime talk show, according to the New York Times.
“Dear Donald, I did not see the program, but Mrs. Nixon told me that you were great on the Donahue Show,” Nixon wrote. “As you can imagine, she is an expert on politics and she predicts that whenever you decide to run for office you will be a winner!”
Trump certainly hopes Nixon’s words ring true in his effort take charge of Washington, D.C. The GOP’s front-runner for president will appear at a rally against the Obama administration’s Iran deal in the nation’s capital on Wednesday. Tea Party Patriots, a conservative group aimed at building grassroots support, has organized the event and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will attend as well.
