Organizers of the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee could have used a spell check on their Web site.
D.C. photographer and avid speller Carrie Devorah told Yeas & Nays that she noticed a misspelling on the media credentials application for the annual spelling competition in Washington. In the drop-down menu for “State,” District in “District of Columbia” is spelled “D-I-S-C-T-R-I-C-T.”
It’s amazing the organizers misspelled the name of the city that hosts the national competition. It’s not quite as difficult as the winning word “stromuhr” that 14-year-old eighth-grader Anamika Veeramani had to spell to win the challenge.
