TBS offers political impersonations in excess

Frank TV

It’s the silly season in politics — literally.

If you don’t know Frank Caliendo by name, you most certainly have seen one of his impersonations. The comedian got his big break on Fox’s “MADtv” show and has spot-on impersonations of everyone from George W. Bush to Bill Clinton to John Madden to Al Gore to Dr. Phil to William Shatner.

The second seasons of his TBS show — “Frank TV” — debuts tonight and its chock full of political material and impersonations. We got a sneak peak at some of the skits, including…

» One in which Bill Clinton walks in on Al Gore making out with Monica Lewinsky. “Please don’t tell Tipper,” says Gore. “Not everyone has what you and Hillary have.”

» One of Sen. John McCain holding auditions for “celebrity endorsements” in order to steal the Hollywood elite away from Barack Obama. But it’s slim pickings: Only Helen Hunt’s brother and a guy who almost made N’Sync show up.

» One of George Bush giving Barack Obama campaign advice over shots at the bar. “You painted yourself into a corner with that goody two-shoe stuff. You should have been like Simon Cowell, the guy people love to hate. Instead you came out like Paula Abdul. That was dumb.”
