Too trendy: Bracketology being used to decide D.C.’s top cupcake

D.C. would have this kind of March Madness.

While some Washingtonians are busily filling out their NCAA brackets before the tourney’s tipoff Thursday, others are voting and cheering for their favorite cupcakery in Washingtonian magazine’s first Cupcake Cup.

With such an abundance of cupcakeries in the area, the folks at Washingtonian are using bracketology to determine which of 32 area bakeries makes the sweetest cupcakes. The competition pits two sets of cupcakeries against each other every day in March. The competition is down to the Edible Eight, their version of, you guessed it, the Elite Eight.

Georgetown Cupcake recently took down neighbor bakery Furin’s, while the new cupcake-truck-on-the-block, Curbside Cupcake, beat out well-known sweet spot Baked & Wired. Voters have until 2 p.m. Wednesday to decide the last of the Edible Eight — Buzz vs. Fancy Cakes by Leslie.

Cupcake Cup continues until the end of the month.
