Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s presidential bid won the endorsement of Urban Meyer, head football coach at Ohio State University.
Kasich teased the news as a “big Ohio endorsement” on Thursday morning and released a video of the coach telling the governor to “go win this darn thing.”
“The leadership that you’ve shown in the state of Ohio since we’ve been back and even before … your friendship as a friend and true supporter of what you stand for, now that I really know what you stand for, we’d like to tell you we wish you guys the best,” Meyer is shown saying.
Donald Trump spoke highly of Meyer earlier this month, which the coach responded to by telling reporters he would not share his political beliefs. He has since changed his mind.
Meyer and Kasich share more than a bond forged among Buckeyes — both men have struggled in competitions involving the state of Michigan.
Michigan State defeated Ohio State en route to the Big 10 championship last season, costing Meyer a chance at making the college football playoffs, but his team soldiered on to a bowl game anyway. Kasich finished third in Michigan earlier this week, which his team spun by saying the governor is “ahead of schedule.”
Meyer, however, suffered only one defeat last season. Kasich has yet to win a single state in the 2016 GOP primary.
