Sightings: Hudson celebrates a surprise 30th at Opera

Jennifer Hudson thought she was coming to D.C. this week to attend Monday night’s Aretha Franklin Tribute at the Kennedy Center and then do some work for Weight Watchers. But after Monday night’s event, the singer and Academy Award-winning actress was taken to the new downtown spot Opera Ultra Lounge where 300 of her closest friends and family were gathered ready to surprise the star on her 30th birthday. After her grand entrance (she was actually surprised, we’re told), singers impersonating “divas” performed some of Hudson’s hits for her, while guests sipped Avion tequila and Grey Goose vodka. Hudson stayed until about 2 a.m.

Hudson is also scheduled to appear on a panel Thursday at the National Club on behalf of Weight Watchers to launch the fourth annual Lose for Good campaign to help stop hunger and obesity.
