Don’t look now, but Scott Walker and Jeb Bush are neck and neck for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
With 18 percent and 16 percent, respectively, the current Wisconsin governor and former Florida governor are atop the list of potential 2016 Republican presidential nominees among Republican or Republican leaning voters, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee are both at 8 percent.
Ben Carson garnered 7 percent, followed by 6 percent for both Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas, and 5 percent for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
Perhaps the most important number: 17 percent are undecided.
Democrats continue to strongly back former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president, favoring her five-to-one over Vice President Joe Biden and four-to-one over Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
Clinton’s domination isn’t just over fellow Democrat competitors — she leads all of her would-be Republican opponents, beating Bush 45-42 and Walker 48-39.
The telephone-based survey of more than 1,200 registered voters nationwide was conducted Feb. 26-March 2 with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
