It was an emotional time for some White House visitors who got the chance to meet President Barack Obama. Some people cried. Others became flustered. The president thanked people for coming to visit and told them enjoy themselves. He even joked that they should roam around—just be careful not to break anything.
The new president and first lady Michelle Obama shook hands with a line of guests in the Blue Room on Wednesday, just one day after he took office as the 44th president. The Obamas made small talk as a steady stream of guests passed through.
