Pro-Obama group says it will fight status quo

WASHINGTON (AP) — Leaders of a grassroots group formed from President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign say their organization will work to fight the status quo in Washington and pass the president’s agenda.

Leaders of Organizing for Action are defending the group at an event with donors and volunteers. They say they aren’t a partisan organization and will not push for the election of specific candidates.

David Plouffe, a former White House senior adviser, says the group should be “celebrated, not criticized.”

Obama is headlining the two-day meeting of the new nonprofit group with a dinner speech on Wednesday night. The group was formed by former Obama aides and is raising millions of dollars from donors to rally support for issues like gun control, immigration reform and climate change.
