White House aide calls NBC’s Andrea Mitchell ‘PR person’ for Democrats

Dan Scavino, director of social media for the White House, hit NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell for, he said, helping former national security adviser Susan Rice evade new scrutiny in the ongoing spying controversy.

On Twitter, Scavino reacted to an interview Tuesday that Mitchell conducted with Rice on MSNBC.

“Andrea Mitchell is trying her best to help Susan Rice get through this interview. No credibility!” wrote Scavino.

He followed up, using language similar to President Trump’s, tweeting, “Lyin’, leakin’ Susan Rice stammered through her soft ball interview with Dem PR person Andrea Mitchell.”

The Washington Examiner has reached out to NBC and MSNBC for comment.

During the interview, Rice denied leaking any information about associates of President Trump who were caught up in incidental U.S. surveillance of foreign targets and she said there was no political motivation in requesting that their identities be revealed to former Obama administration officials.

She also said that no one in Obama’s administration used intelligence information for political purposes.

News reports Monday said that Rice, while in the White House, asked that the identities of Trump associates in contact with foreign officials be “unmasked,” or revealed, in intelligence reports.

The development followed allegations by the White House that Trump’s transition team was surveilled by the Obama administration.
