Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly said Wednesday she will be “surprised” if Republican presidential
Trump’s campaign announced Wednesday evening he would not be participating in the seventh Republican primary debate after Fox mocked him for questioning Kelly’s objectivity. Instead, the billionaire will host a fundraiser in Iowa for veterans and the Wounded Warrior Project.
“I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t come,” Kelly said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“I know he says he doesn’t want to now, but I’ll really be surprised because I feel like the people of Iowa are still persuadable,” she added.
Kelly also seemed baffled as to why Trump would choose to skip the final debate before the Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses and one that is held in Des Moines.
“He’s in a tight race with Ted Cruz,” she noted. “I don’t know why he wouldn’t take one last opportunity to make his case to them in such a huge forum.”
“I really do hope he comes to the debate,” she added. “I think it would behoove him to stand there and be tested next to his fellow candidates.”
The next GOP debate will air live on Fox News at 9 p.m. Thursday with an earlier debate for low-polling candidates beginning at 7 p.m.
