In the tabloids he has a bad boy image, but singer John Mayer has been working to help veterans transition back into civilian life. It’s this work that’s getting a nod later this month at the annual Grammys on the Hill event in D.C.
Mayer is being honored alongside Rep. Howard Berman, D-Calif., who has supported musicians through his work in Congress. Mayer’s idol and mentor Buddy Guy is set to attend, along with Secretary of Health and Human Service Kathleen Sebelius, who will discuss Mayer’s work with the troops, and a handful of other artists and songwriters.

Part of Grammys on the Hill, now in its 11th year, has always been showcasing interesting musical collaborations between the recording industry folks and Washingtonians. In past years, members of Congress have formed a band and recorded a not-so-hit single, and “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer has sang Garth Brooks to Garth Brooks, basically stealing the show. The invite-only event will take place April 25 at the Liaison Capitol Hill.
