Fiorina defends Trump’s attacks: ‘Bill Clinton is fair game’

Republican presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina came to Donald Trump’s defense Monday, claiming he hasn’t crossed any boundaries by attacking Hillary Clinton’s spouse.

“Of course, Bill Clinton is fair game,” Fiorina said Monday on Fox News. “He’s a former president.”

Trump slammed former President Bill Clinton on Twitter Saturday, hours after his wife announced that he will begin campaigning for her in the new year.

Despite defending Trump’s criticism of the 42nd president, Fiorina said that ultimately, it’s an unsuccessful tactic.

“You’re not going to beat Hillary Clinton by attacking Bill Clinton. You’re going to beat Hillary Clinton — I’m going to beat Hillary Clinton — by attacking her track record and her trustworthiness,” she said.

Fiorina, who’s tenth in the Washington Examiner’s presidential power rankings, stood out early on in the Republican field for her harsh criticism of Clinton on the campaign trail and during the GOP primary debates. However, she has yet to recover her short-lived position in the top tier since she slipped below 5 percent in national polls in early November.

The former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard is slated to arrive in New Hampshire next week for a five-day swing through the first-in-the-nation primary state.
