The Rick Perry super PAC has purchased $406,000 for cable television advertising in Iowa, expanding its role as the life preserver keeping the former Texas governor’s presidential hopes afloat.
Opportunity and Freedom PAC confirmed that it has placed a cable ad buy that will run from Sept. 8, the day after Labor Day, through Nov. 23, in Iowa’s three largest media markets: Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Sioux City. The news comes one day after the super PAC announced the hiring of a field director and deputy field director in the Hawkeye State, host of the first nominating contest of the 2016 GOP primary.
Opportunity and Freedom PAC says it is committed to picking up the slack for Perry until he finds his footing and becomes a factor in the race. Assuming responsibility for field operations in Iowa is a prime example of how the organization plans to step in to keep Perry viable.
Perry’s official presidential campaign has been running on fumes. The operation stopped making payroll for a few weeks, and is now down to just one paid staffer in Iowa. The campaign has been mum on fundraising since then, but Perry claimed via his Twitter account on Monday that things are looking up. “A big thx for making today our biggest fundraising haul of August!”
