With a bevy of staffers leaving Newt Gingrich‘s presidential campaign recently, some wondered why the exodus occurred. Well, now we might have a bit more insight in to the matter. On Friday, WaPo reported that staffers were worried about the amount money Newt spent at luxury retailer, Tiffany’s.

“The purchases included jewelry items valued as much as $300,000 for his wife’s Christmas gifts, selected each year during a fall Potomac River cruise sponsored by the jeweler. On a smaller scale, Gingrich spent about $40,000 over four years buying Tiffany trinkets as Christmas gifts for up to 100 employees,” the Post reported. Some felt that the spending could become a liability as the campaign moved forward.
