Texas Sen. Ted Cruz rejected the idea that Donald Trump is an “insurgent” Republican pursuing the nation’s highest office.

“There ain’t nothin’ insurgent about this guy,” Cruz said in North Carolina. “When he’s been lining the pockets of every D.C. politico for 40 years, yeah, he’s about as insurgent as George Soros. How’s that for an insurgent? You know what insurgents do? They actually stand up to Washington. They don’t fund Washington. They say no when Washington is harming the people.”

George Sorors is a billionaire and donor to left-wing political causes and candidates.

Cruz told a Charlotte crowd that Trump as a GOP nominee would be an “absolute disaster.”

“If we nominate Donald Trump we lose,” Cruz said. “Hillary beats Trump and beats him badly, which means if we nominate Donald Trump we lose the Supreme Court for a generation. We lose the Bill of Rights for a generation. Our children drown in debt.”

Cruz will head to Miami, Fla., on Wednesday to campaign in the backyard of rival Republican Sen. Marco Rubio. Republicans in North Carolina and Florida will vote in primaries on March 15.
