Walker cuts ad for Cruz, ‘the only conservative who can beat Hillary Clinton’

Gov. Scott Walker appears in a new ad for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz that will air across Wisconsin ahead of next Tuesday’s primary in the Badger State.

Walker endorsed Cruz earlier this week and will campaign with the senator in anticipation of the primary.”Jobs, freedom, security. That’s what’s at stake and that’s why I’m supporting Ted Cruz for president,” Walker says in the 30-second spot. “Ted Cruz is a constitutional conservative. He’ll challenge the status quo just like we’ve done in Wisconsin. And Ted has a real plan to grow jobs and restore opportunity. On Tuesday please join me in supporting Ted Cruz, the only conservative who can beat Hillary Clinton and reignite America’s promise.”The terms Walker used to describe the stakes of the 2016 election — jobs, freedom and security — mirror the governor’s platform from his short-lived presidential bid. Before Walker dropped out in the fall, he repeatedly emphasized growth, freedom and safety. Cruz has subsequently emphasized rhetoric that appears largely similar to Walker’s while on the trail in Wisconsin. The governor’s ad could spur undecided support for Cruz, as Walker remains a popular figure among Republican Wisconsinites and conservatives in particular. Recent polling in the state has shown Cruz to have a double-digit percentage point advantage.
