The Islamic State confirmed Tuesday that the infamous executioner “Jidahi John” was killed by U.S. airstrikes on Al Raqqah, Syria, last November, according to reports.
Until Tuesday, Islamic State officials had claimed Mohammed Emwazi, known as Jihadi John, survived the Nov. 12 attack.

The Islamic State celebrated Emwazi’s life, which included countless executions of innocent civilians, saying he was known for his “mercy, kindness and generosity towards the believers, his protective jealously for Islam and its people and his affection towards the orphans,” according to Dabiq magazine.
Emwazi was born in Kuwait and migrated to England in 1994. In late 2013, British authorities confirmed he had traveled to Syria. He had a history of working with similar terrorist groups prior to joining the Islamic State.
