Sightings: Simon Doonan, Herman Cain at W Hotel

Fashionable types flocked to the W Hotel Wednesday night for the chance to meet Barney’s Fashion Ambassador-at-Large Simon Doonan, who was in town to promote his newest book “Gay Men Don’t Get Fat.”

Highlights for partygoers included an appearance by Doonan’s husband, designer Jonathan Adler, a performance by the drag queen Heidi Gloom, and a political run-in with Herman Cain. Guests happened upon former Republican presidential candidate in the elevator of the W Hotel. “Who doesn’t get fat?” Cain joked to partygoers seeing the books they were holding.

Doonan, who’s not shy about talking politics, we’re told had this to say about Cain. “I wish I could have known Herman Cain was in the house, I would have taken him under my gay wing and given him some fabulosity tips,” Doonan said. “His campaign foundered because it was too butch and hetero, he needed less pizza and more Ladure macaroons, if you know what I mean.”

Besides the W, Cain and his chief of staff Mark Block were also at the back bar of the nearby Old Ebbitt Grill Wednesday night, with Block spotted stepping outside for a smoke.
