Many people interviewed at the Vienna-Fairfax Metro stop Monday said they did not plan to vote today, despite a hotly contested Democratic race in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District that may switch the region from Republican representation in November.

Of 15 people questioned leaving the station, 10 were unaware of the primary election today or had no intention of going to the polls. Some said the election was not well-advertised, and others were apathetic or said they were too busy.

“I didn’t even know there was a primary,” said George Wallace, a 53-year-old Fairfax resident.

Dorothy Logan, 23, said she was not surprised the area could become Democraticbut was not voting in the primary.

“I’ll vote in the general election in November,” she said.

“I just have too much other stuff to do,” said a man walking briskly out of the station.

Patty Bartnick, a Reston resident, said she planned to vote Republican. Reston is in the Eighth District, where Republicans Mark Ellmore and Amit Singh are competing for the

seat held by Democrat Jim Moran.

“I’ve only heard about it recently — in the past two weeks or so,” she said.

One woman, a certified nurse aide who gave her name as Amy, said she was tired of party politics in both the presidential and congressional elections.

“I’m not going to vote because they’re all crooks,” she said.
