The perception that Hillary Clinton is “untrustworthy” will likely follow her into the White House if she becomes the next president, according to NBC “Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt, who also moderated the first debate between Clinton and Donald Trump.
In an interview published Thursday with Women’s Wear Daily, Holt said a Clinton presidency would most certainly be colored by her lasting reputation as being, at best, ethically challenged.
“Her Achilles heel has been this perception of playing fast and loose with the rules, being untrustworthy,” he said. “I don’t think that goes away. I think that potentially dogs her if she is elected president.”
For the better part of her campaign, Clinton was under investigation by the FBI for using a private email server during her tenure at the State Department. Though the investigation was closed in July, FBI Director James Comey told Congress last week that agents had found more emails related to the server.
The emails were reportedly found on devices belong to top Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her estranged husband, disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner.
