Sanders widens lead over Clinton in Wisconsin

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has opened a four-point lead over rival Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin, according to a new poll.

A new Marquette University Law School Poll released Wednesday shows Sanders with 49 percent support among likely Democratic primary voters, compared to Clinton’s 45 percent, though Clinton is within striking distance with the margin of error factored in. When asked to pick between Sanders, Clinton and a third person, 49.2 percent opted for Sanders, while 44.9 percent chose Clinton.

Without naming a third candidate, 5.5 percent said they have yet to chose a candidate.

In February, the same poll found Sanders leading Clinton, 44-43, among those Democrats who said they will vote in the April 5 primary.

For Sanders, the Wisconsin primary and its 96 delegates is a must win following his wins in Alaska, Hawaii and Washington over the weekend. He has now won five of the last six contests.

The poll of 405 likely Democratic primary voters was conducted March 24–28 and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 6.3 percentage points.
