Mag’s global cities index humbles D.C.

‘We’re (not) #1!’

Dear Washingtonians: Think you’re a bunch of big shots? Think you’re mover and a shaker? Think this town makes the world go round?

Think again. The latest Foreign Policy magazine takes a look at “the 60 cities that shape our lives the most” and the egos of Washingtonians will be bruised when they hear the results.

First place? New York. Second? London. Third? Paris. Then Tokyo, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Singapore, Chicago, Seoul and Toronto. Poor old Washington doesn’t even crack the top ten, landing in the magazine’s No. 11 spot (even though it did take top honors in the “Political Engagement” category, naturally).

But the damage doesn’t stop there. In “The Best Cities to Do Business” category, D.C. doesn’t even get a nod in the top 20 slots and in “The Best Cities To Get Some Culture” category, Washington places 14th (behind Moscow and Toronto!).

Little consolation: We were tops in “The Best Cities To Be A Diplomat.”

Yawn.
