Trump campaign manager: ‘I called Michelle Fields’ night of incident

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign manager claims he called ex-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields the same night that she alleged he grabbed her “tightly by the arm and yanked [her] down” at a press conference in Jupiter, Fla.

“Well let me say this – that night, and this was never reported, but I called Michelle Fields,” Corey Lewandowski told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Friday.

“I didn’t know what happened, honestly, and the interaction with Michelle Fields lasted the sum total of about three seconds of my entire life,” he said. “I never met her before, and the only time I’ve ever interacted with her is on that video tape.”

Lewandowski described Fields as “delusional” on Twitter, saying he had never met her. The campaign, including Trump himself, denied the interaction took place.

Lewandowski continued, “That evening, after I read her boyfriend’s Twitter account, saying that something had occurred, I made a phone call to Michelle. And I never heard back and to this day I’ve never heard back from Michelle.”

Trump’s right-hand man went further, suggesting that Fields didn’t respond to the campaign’s attempts to reach out because “she wanted to inject herself into making it a story.”

“Now I’m glad the story is over,” he said.

Florida state attorney David Aronberg announced Thursday afternoon that he would not pursue criminal prosecution of Lewandowski due to insufficient evidence to prove he was guilty of misdemeanor battery.

“Obviously I am very pleased,” Lewandowski told CNN.

He added, “First and foremost, I want to thank Mr. Trump for his loyalty and his dedication to his staff and to me specifically, because a lesser person, another politician, would have terminated me on the spot.”
